DIY How To Change A Tire On A Harley Davidson Motorcycle

Changing a tire on a Harley Davidson motorcycle is one of the most common DIY automotive projects. Motorcyclists love to save money and do the work themselves whether it is big repairs and upgrades or even small maintenance projects.

So how does the do it yourself craftsman change a tire on a Harley Davidson motorcycle? First you need to make sure you have the right tools.
  • Valve Core
  • Tire Iron
  • Bead Breaker
  • Air Pump
  • Silicone Lubricant (Spray)
  • Breezer Tire Tool
Step 1:

Using the valve core begin to let the remaining air out of the tire.

Step 2:

Use the bead breaker to break the seal of the tire and the rim. Gently insert the breaker between the tire and the rim to force a wedge until you hear a POP indicating the seal is broken. Then begin to separate the tire from the rim without doing any damage.

Step 3:

Lubricate the tire with the spray so that you have less resistance as you begin to remove it from the wheel. The silicone spray should be sprayed on the tire bead so that you can easily remove the tire with the tire iron.

Step 4:

As you go to put the new tire on make sure that you thoroughly lubricate the inner walls to allow for easier fitting. Then line it up with the wheel so that the valve stem is in the right location.

Step 5:

Simply reverse the process of what you did before. Using the tire iron, push the tire into the rim until it is in all the way around. Then you want to fill it up with air but not all the way. Take the breezer tool and rotate the bead into the edges of the rim so that you have a firm grip all around. Again make sure you aren't forcing anything and you do not cause damage to the rim.

Then slowly fill the tire up with air until it is at the right level. Listen closely for any leaks and if everything sounds good put the wheel back on your Harley and take it for a short test ride. Then check the air pressure and if everything has remained the same you can take it out for a longer ride. Then test it one more time and if everything looks good you know that you are good to go.

It may seem like a little bit of work just to change a motorcycle tire on your Harley Davidson but remember the main motivation for a DIY project is to save money. That's your real goal, to save money and accomplish something on your own. That's what makes do it yourself projects fun.

Ask Twice Order Once For Custom Harley Davidson Motorcycle Parts

Doing a custom bike build this year or maybe something simple like replacing the handlebars on your Harley? It really doesn’t matter, the rules are the same when you are ordering custom Harley Davidson parts, ask questions. Ask them to the seller, ask them to mechanics, ask them to bike enthusiasts and even ask yourself. Make a list of everything you need to check and double check before you place the order to avoid making mistakes that will cost you time and money. Here are just a few questions you need to ask before you click ‘Buy Now’

1.       Is it the right size? Have you measured everything, have you taken everything into consideration and will it fit? Double check this because if you order the wrong size part you will have to ship it back and pay a restocking fee. Also keep in mind the extra space something may need, for example handlebars. When you are ordering custom handlebars for your Harley Davidson it’s not just about the size you need, it’s also about the size that will fit your bike as far as clearance. Triple check all measurements before you order.

2.       Right type of part: Will this fit a softail from a certain year? Will it fit this model bike from this year? Will it work with the parts I have on it? It seems like a lot of questions but they are all important to ask. Understand that parts are not universal. Harley Davidson does not make a part that goes on every single one of their bikes and works with every single part ever made. That’s why you need to make sure you ask the annoying questions to be sure that the parts you are looking to buy are compatible with your motorcycle.

3.       Other options: Another reason you should talk to a company before making a purchase is that you never know if they have something else in stock, something similar to what you are looking for but it is available for a lot less. It could be something as simple as a headlight and the one you find online is offered for $115 but the store has one similar in design, just a different manufacturer and it’s available for $85. Doesn’t seem like a lot but if you need to make a lot of orders because you are doing a custom build it will add up.

4.       New or used? Sometimes we look for the cheapest deal, especially when we are on EBay or Amazon. When you find a great deal don’t be in a rush to buy it, sometimes the part you see is actually used or scratched up. If that doesn’t bother you then go ahead and buy it but if you are expecting something new and you see a really cheap deal on it you may need to read the page a little more carefully.

5.       Shipping: Often times the best deals on custom Harley Davidson motorcycle parts can be found online but when you are ordering online you need to know what to expect with shipping, especially when you can expect it to arrive. If the shop you are buying from is in Florida and you live in Georgia that’s not an issue. However, if you live in Hawaii you will have to wait a bit longer. So make sure you understand how long you will have to wait to receive what you ordered.

As you are looking for great deals online you may find yourself in a rush to make a purchase. Don’t rush, that’s when you make mistakes and don’t be afraid to call or email the company up and ask questions. A custom Harley Davidson parts distributor has to deal with hundreds of mistakes made on orders a week so calling or emailing them to ask a few questions to prevent making mistakes will be like music to their ears.

5 Reasons Why You Should Buy Custom Harley Davidson Parts From Demon’s Cycle

Demon’s Cycle has over 20 years of experience in Harley Davidson custom motorcycle builds. During that time we have built dozens of bikes and helped our customers create some of the coolest motorcycles on the road today. For those of you curious why you should purchase your custom parts from us here are 5 things to consider:

 1.        Cost: One thing few can argue is that Demon’s Cycle strives in having the best deals on custom motorcycle parts including handlebars, wheels and rims, headlights, fenders, gas tanks and more. We keep our costs down because we aren’t looking to make a fortune off one sale, we want to make it up in volume and that’s what people love about us.

2.        Quality: Just take a look at the customer pics sent in and you can see why we have some great ratings on EBay, Amazon and our own website. We pride ourselves on having quality parts at the lowest possible prices.

3.        Selection: There is more than one motorcycle so why would we carry parts for only one model? That’s the issue you face with local shops but we make sure to carry multiple selections for the different model bikes you may have including; sportster, softail, dyna, bagger and others.

4.        Experience: A combination of over 100 years of motorcycle experience from trained mechanics allows us to give you the customer service and guidance you need to put together your dream bike. You wouldn’t believe how many purchases we have talked our customers out of making because they are about to order something they aren’t going to need. We would rather have a happy customer than make a sale. Call us and speak to one of our mechanics if you have any questions and they can help you out.

5.  We want you back: We have several customers who have been buying from us for over 10 years. We rely on that repeat business not only because they buy from us but because they also recommend us to other bike owners. We appreciate that and that’s why we review all our parts as well as pride ourselves in providing great customer service.

When you need to upgrade or make repairs on your Harley Davidson motorcycle you face a couple of challenges. The first is finding the unique and custom parts you want for your bike and the second is finding them for a low price. Demon’s Cycle takes care of both of those for you and throws in elite customer service at no extra charge.

5 Ways To Do A Custom Motorcycle Build On The Cheap

Whether it is for profit or for a personal project a custom motorcycle build is a big task to take on with a lot of financial responsibility. Be prepared to spend at least $10,000 when you build anything just because of the volume of parts you are going to need. But like anything there has to be a way to do it for a cheaper price. You don’t want to sacrifice quality but you definitely need to do this under a specific budget. Here are 5 ways you can do a custom motorcycle build on the cheap and still construct a great bike:

1.       Buy Online: When you are looking for custom Harley Davidson motorcycle parts it is important to remember that local shops do not have the best prices or the best selection. Think about it this way, who has to make more off of a sale; the local guy who makes 10 sales a day or the online shop that makes 100 sales a day? Therefore they are able to keep their prices down on the parts you need.

2.       Buy early: If you are doing this more as a pet project chances are you plan on starting during the winter or a point where you have more time to dedicate to the work that needs to be done. Sometimes the best deal will actually be in November and December but we do not plan on starting the project until February or March. Don’t let that be a factor, buy early when you can get the best deals on the custom parts you need. Another advantage to buying early is that you can inspect and review your order, make sure it is the right size you need and everything else is correct to avoid delays when you are ready to get going.

3.       Double check everything: When you place an order make sure that you double check everything. For example, you are buying a set of ape hanger handlebars for the Harley Davidson you are going to build, make sure that you double check the size of the bars you are ordering is correct, it fits the model bike you are building and it will also fit what you want.

4.       Buy yourself: Even the most experienced Harley Davidson custom builders have a few areas that they are not experts on and you may want to leave certain aspects of the project to someone else. There’s nothing wrong with that but make sure that you still order the custom parts you need yourself. If you leave it to a mechanic they are going to get whatever they need, not caring about finding the cheapest price and you will also pay a markup. For example, sticking with the ape hanger handlebars we discussed earlier, the local shop sells them for $175 and your mechanic purchases them and rounds it up to about $200. You find them online for $150 so you save $50 by finding them yourself and ordering them.

5.       Be Flexible: Obviously there is an idea of how this custom Harley Davidson motorcycle is going to look but make sure you are a little flexible in the design ideas. As you are assembling and purchasing parts you may notice that a different design ape hanger handlebars is available for a lower price. Remember you are trying to put everything together on the cheap so if something is cheaper but fits your design why not go with it?

It really doesn’t matter if this is a personal project or you are doing it for a customer, when you are building your own motorcycle you want to save money but don’t mistake cheap for lack of quality. You can get the motorcycle parts you need on the cheap and still get great quality.

How To Properly Store Your Harley Davidson Motorcycle

There are plenty of reasons why you need to store your Harley Davidson motorcycle. It could be because of winter, maybe it needs repairs and work done or perhaps you aren’t going to ride for a while and you want it protected from the elements. Whatever the reason you want to make sure that it is stored properly to protect it and maintain its quality. Here are a few tips for what you can do to make sure that your Harley is safe during the winter or any other time it needs to be put into storage:

1.       Scrub and wash: Never, no matter how tempting it is do you want to store a dirty bike. That just creates problems in the long run as it can cause your paint job to corrode and can even have a long term effect on certain parts. Also make sure that you dry it thoroughly as well.

2.       Lube, Oil and Change: This won’t be a fun task but you should change out the filters, oil and make sure that you lube all moving parts. Letting bad oil and filters sit as well as not lubing moveable parts can lead to rust, moisture getting into the engine or other issues.

3.       Gas Tank Preparations: Fill your gas tank up and use a fuel stabilizer to keep the gas tank from forming moisture and damaging the fuel pump. Several times stored bikes will have their pumps actually crack and break causing them to leak which can do serious damage to a bike if it sits for a long period of time. You also want to make sure that you have plenty of anti-freeze in your coolant system. You do not want water freezing in your bike because it will cause cracking when it begins to thaw.

4.       Tires: When tires sit in the same position for long periods of time they develop flat spots. If you can keep the tires off of the ground while in storage it will prevent this from happening. Motorcycle stands are affordable and easy to get. If you cannot get them then perhaps put down some carpet or something that will keep them from sitting directly on concrete.

5.       Put a lid on it: Pipes, filters and anywhere else that is accessible can become home to some unwanted guests. Plug or cover up where you need to in order to prevent this from happening. This does not include covering up your bike. Putting a simple cover on it is important to keep dust off the paint and parts but do not think that a simple cover alone will protect it.

Obviously there are a few tips you don’t have to follow if you aren’t storing the motorcycle over the winter or it doesn’t get extremely cold where you live. However, no matter where you are you want to make sure that you store your Harley in a spot that is well protected from the elements as well as out of the way. For example, if you are putting it in the garage make sure it is not in the center as it could be in the way of cars coming in and out. The less you have to move a motorcycle in storage the better because you run the risk of it falling over or a mistake occurring.

Important Tips Before Starting Your Custom Build

Tips to follow before starting your custom Harley Davidson build
Planning a custom Harley Davidson build? It’s an awesome do it yourself project to take on but you have to put together a plan before you even get started. It doesn’t matter if you are doing a custom build for your own bike or to sell it if you do not follow these simple but important tips you may run into some problems throughout the build, problems which could have easily been avoided.

1.       Bit by bit: One thing bike builders love to do is visualize how they think their custom Harley Davidson motorcycle is going to look when it is done. Often times you get overeager and you want to buy all the custom parts at once so you can build the bike as fast as possible. The problem is that as you get started your ideas may change and even the slightest change could make a part you bought useless. What if your original idea called for ape hanger handlebars on the bike and now you feel that it would look better with T-bars? That’s why you need to get the parts as you are ready for them and as the building process unfolds.

2.       Custom doesn’t mean expensive: Just because you are working on a DIY custom build doesn’t mean you have to spend $50,000 on Harley Davidson parts. You can put together an awesome bike and not have it cost an arm and a leg. When you shop online you get a great selection of custom parts but they are available at a much lower price than you can find anywhere local.

3.       Assemble then paint: The FIRST RULE when putting a DIY motorcycle together is that you assemble it first, then you break it down, get it painted and then put it back together. The biggest problem Harley Davidson owners have when building a motorcycle is that they send stuff off to the painters before they put it together and when they get everything they realize that some stuff doesn’t fit or simply has to be worked on before sent to the painter. Either way Harley builders are notorious for making this mistake and you want to avoid it.
Remember that when you are putting together a do it yourself Harley Davidson you are using your creativity but there are some things you just can’t do. It’s always smart to talk to the store you are ordering custom parts from to double check and make sure they are compatible with the bike you are trying to create. If you are off even by a little in size it will cause delays and cost you more money, something you would like to avoid if possible. There will be enough challenges to put this motorcycle together but if you can avoid these common mistakes you can build an awesome custom Harley Davidson motorcycle at an affordable price and in your planned time frame.

Demon’s Cycle Custom Ape Hanger Handlebars for Quality on a Budget

There’s a myth that you have to pay more to get better quality? Why? Why can’t you pay a fair price and get a quality item? Demon’s Cycle believes that you should and that’s why they offer custom Harley Davidson motorcycle parts at a fair price and in some cases even a lower price than that. The reason is because of volume and cost. As an online store Demon’s Cycle is able to ship out ten times as many Harley Davidson parts as a local shop can.
Why is this important to you? Because as a consumer you want the company that is doing more business because they can offer their products at a lower price and also because they will have a larger selection. Who do you think has more shelf space; the local store that was a pizza restaurant a few months ago or the online store that has a giant warehouse full of the custom Harley Davidson parts?
Let’s use another example of why you should shop with Demon’s Cycle. Do you need a new set of handlebars? Maybe you want to upgrade to a set of ape hangers for your softail or something else. When you walk into the local bike shop they are limited in shelf space so they have to sell whatever is the most popular. They can’t afford to carry the rare or custom handlebars you may be looking for.
Even if they are willing and able to order just one set of ape hangers for you then you are still looking at a high markup by the store and a higher price from the manufacturer because they are only buying one single item. Demon’s Cycle is one of the largest Harley Davidson parts distributors in the World. That means they have dozens of those unique ape hanger handlebars you want and because they bought so many they got them at a discount and can sell them at a cheaper price to you than anyone else can.
But what about quality? That’s the ironic part; Demon’s Cycle gets their custom Harley parts including handlebars for Softails, Dyna, Sportster or any other bike at the same factory as the store in town. Furthermore they review and inspect their parts before sending them out. How’s that for quality?
So if you want the best quality for the lowest possible price and a bigger selection than you can imagine then shop with Demon’s Cycle and get what you really want.

Reasons Why You Shouldn’t Buy Used Harley Davidson Parts

It’s ironic how some people think its ok to buy used Harley Davidson motorcycle parts. It makes sense, a new set of handlebars can cost you around $300 or more depending on what type you are getting but you can find a set of used ones for a third of that price. In some cases you get quality used parts for low prices and that’s a great deal for you. However, there are some reasons why you do not want to do that:

1.       No refund: How do you get your money back from a guy off of craigslist? Not exactly an easy thing to do and even if you buy from a site with more control there is still no guarantee that you are going to get your money back.

2.       No warranty: Try calling Harley Davidson, the manufacturer or distributor of the part and tell them that you purchased an engine from someone and now it’s not working and you want it to be replaced under warranty. If they don’t laugh at you they will try to calmly explain how it is not their problem. In most cases they do not have to honor a warranty after that long and especially after the part has been sold to someone else. Unless the part has an MSO they do not even have any proof you purchased it from them.

3.       The real story: You will not know the entire story about that part. Even if it is a pair of ape hanger handlebars, how do you know that the bike didn’t fall over one day and the bars got a little damaged or bent? Headlights, brake rotors and especially wheels all can have damage to them that you may not notice for a while and then one day you need to replace them.

4.       You really aren’t saving that much: Yes you may be able to save 50% on certain parts but when you do the math it really doesn’t benefit getting used Harley parts. Used parts are cheaper but in most cases they also have to be replaced more often so what’s the point?

5.       Impact on the bike: You spend all this money on a new bike, new parts and everything else and then you go to get a pair of used handlebars or used wheels for it? That really doesn’t make any sense not to mention it could be bad for the other parts you have.

When it comes right down to it you really aren’t getting any benefits when you buy used parts other than saving a few dollars right then and there which you are going to end up using down the road on new Harley Davidson parts anyways. Another thing to consider is this; you can find new custom Harley parts online for low prices so you are saving even less money than you thought by going with used ones. Don’t go cheap on your Harley, spend a little extra and get quality.

Demon’s Cycle Reviews Custom Harley Bagger Parts

Did you get to take your bagger out on a road trip this summer? Great, there is nothing better than a long trip on a Harley Davidson but baggers are especially nice because they allow for more comfort and storage space on long rides. Hopefully you had an awesome trip and now it’s time to look over your bike and see if any of those bagger parts need to be replaced.
Don’t worry if any do because Demon’s Cycle has the best deals on custom Harley parts you will find online. But before you start looking for any dresser parts you may need to replace here are a few specific ones you should check out. They may be in good condition or you may be in the mood for an upgrade or to go with something more custom.
1.       Wheels: Few parts on a Harley Davidson take more abuse than the wheels. Potholes, debris, weather, heat from the road and plenty of other elements take their toll on your wheels. Even if they are in good condition it may be time to upgrade to something new. Luckily for you Demon’s Cycle has a great deal on all custom wheels and you can find an awesome selection on bagger wheels on the site.

2.       Brake Rotors: It shouldn’t shock anyone that the brake rotors take the brunt of the abuse on a long road trip. If your wheels look great you may still want to change out the brake rotors after long trips.

3.       Floorboards: It’s not that the floorboards take a lot of abuse, even though in some cases they do. The reason you want to switch out these parts is because Demon’s Cycle has an awesome selection of custom dresser floorboards at low prices.

4.       Latch Covers: These are tricky because you can find a great selection of dresser latch covers on our site but they actually are often replaced because of wear and tear. Most often when a customer needs new latch covers it is because theirs broke while they were on a long trip and went to open or close them and they got loose or even snapped. This happens a lot but even if it didn’t you should get durable ones. And of course, we have custom latch covers as well.
You may still have time for one more awesome trip before the end of the year or you have already started working on repairs and upgrades for your bike. It really doesn’t matter, the fact is that it is time to start looking for new bagger parts and if you want something that is custom for your Harley you need to look at Demon’s Cycle.
